I love to film weddings because they are romantic and emotional.

My interest with movie making started when I studied photography at art school in 1973. Back then all we had was something called a super 8 camera.

Digital computer technology has surpassed everything that was ever dreamed of in the seventies and today film making has become a relatively inexpensive hobby.

A word of caution.

All video cameras today film in HD so the videographer will arrive at your wedding and film everything in HD. Fancy cameras are very impressive but what very few of the videographers will tell you is that they compress the images down to very poor video quality.

Very few videographers will give you your finished DVD in HD. Most videographers who make an entertainment wedding DVD will present your video to you on one 4.7 GB DVD disk.

Squeezing 2 hours of video onto a 4.7 GB DVD disk requires massive compression which dramatically reduces the quality of your picture. Any cheap home camcorder can give you this level of video quality.

To get 2 hours of HD video onto one DVD with reasonable quality playback you require at least a 25 GB DVD disk. Anything less than that and you are loosing out. The editing software and camera equipment becomes a little irrelevant when you are compressing 25 GBs onto a 4.7 GB DVD disk.

Ask your videographer the following:

How many hours in total will the wedding video be?

Will the wedding video be on one or more disks?

What is/are the size/s of the disk/s? 4.7 GB, 8.5 GB or 25 GB?

These are basic technical questions that people who don't know don't ask but they are very important to know what it is that you are paying for.

When I load film footage from 2 HD cameras at a wedding the software that I use converts that into about 100 GB on my computer. I do compress this to what I think is acceptable. Normally my weddings videos fit onto two 8.5 GB DVD disks. This is about 4 hours. This is your wedding as it happens in documentary style.

The photographic film show and the music entertainment video that I produce is presented on one 4.7 GB DVD disk.

My recommendation to you is that you store all the original film footage on an external computer hard drive. This is the real value of what is captured from the video cameras and when you have this then at any time in the future then you can re-edit your wedding in different ways or just keep this for a backup. It is not possible to re-edit from a finished DVD.

You may or may not ever need or use what you have on the external hard drive but it takes up little space and for the small capital outlay this is very much worth your while.

Editing plays a vital role in film production and these clips illustrate the extent to which modern computer technology can influence how any movie looks. Both of these clips where filmed at the same location on the same afternoon with the same camera. With the use of video enhancement editing tools the general atmosphere has been altered to such an extent that the two trees in the background don't even look like the same trees.

The action in both clips is essentially the same. Two couples walk towards the camera on a red carpet yet when you watch the two clips your attention is so dramatically shifted away from the environment that for the most part you are unaware that the filming is at the same place.

Whatever you want...

...any film that you need for use on internet, business, aerial shots, insurance documentation for damage or proof of quality, secret surveillance, anything and that aswell and I'm available for court presentation.

I film in high definitiion and use Pinnacle video editing software.
